Meadow Gold / PET Eggnog (Dean Foods)
This season, Meadow Gold Eggnog will be the most widely distributed eggnog featured on this blog. It goes by various names in different regions around the country. It is ultimately produced through Dean Foods. Mead Gold is the brand name used for western states such as Utah, Colorado, Idaho, Nevada and a few others. You can find it in the south east under the “PET” brand name. I’ve consumed both the PET and Meadow Gold brands and can attest that they are identical formulas. In fact, over the last few years Meadow Gold has been a staple for me in that it’s a fairly normal eggnog with a good amount of thickness and a decent flavor. It is not the best tasting eggnog but it’s a fairly solid choice. Some eggnogs iv’e reviewed failed to really taste like eggnog. And as mentioned before, that’s not necessarily a bad thing if you are one that lacks to dabble in the nog, but do not really want to immerse yourself into the egg flavor. Meadow Gold, for me, is straight up the middle on a scale of thickness and flavor. This is a safe holiday choice.
At 570 calories per 12 ounces, this is the heaviest nog we’ve reviewed in terms of calories.
2 out of 4 stars.
